Dressing Room: Archiving Fashion

WHEN:

January 25th 2016 to March 25th 2016
Ended

WHERE:

New York

WHAT:

The MCNY mid-century women’s costume collection is stepping out. In a pop-up photo studio on the first floor, visitors can watch museum staff at work dressing and photographing mannequins in trendsetting outfits—from jumpsuits to evening gowns, dating from the 1940s–1960s—for inclusion on our online Collections Portal. The garments, worn by notable New York women and created by celebrated designers, document the city’s arrival as a fashion capital. The photos will be uploaded to our online Collections Portal for browsing by social historians, fashion scholars, costume designers, and the general public. Many will also be on view as part of Mod New York: Fashion Takes a Trip, opening in early 2017.
